Scott Wharton


Scott’s hometown is Amanda, Ohio, a small farming community in rural Fairfield County. He graduated from Amanda-Clearcreek High School and operates a farm just south of town. His parents Dick and Nancy and his sister Staryl are long time residents of the town of 700 people. While growing up, he worked in the family’s small business, Wharton Hardware.


Scott attended Ohio University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. He began his education at the Ohio University-Lancaster campus and graduated from the main campus in Athens. While at the Ohio University-Lancaster, Scott played for the men’s basketball team, the OU-L Cougars.

Scott’s family has a proud military heritage. His son is currently the 5th generation of the family to serve in the US Military since the Civil War. Scott’s great grandfather fought and died for the Union at the battle of Antietam. His grandfather served in the Navy during WWI. His father was a fighter pilot during the Korean and Viet Nam Conflicts and retired from the USAF. Scott’s brother just retired from the USAF as a C-130 test pilot. Currently his son is serving in 121st Air Refueling Wing of the Ohio Air National Guard.

Captain Wharton, Delta Airlines

In 1989, Scott chose to advance his career in commercial aviation and was hired by Delta Airlines. He is currently a Captain flying the B-737 aircraft in the US, Caribbean, Latin America and Mexico. During his career at Delta he has been a union member in good standing of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), an affiliate of the AFL-CIO.

The Flying W Farm

Looking for a new challenge, Scott purchased a farm just outside of Amanda in 2001. He is not from a farming family and is extremely proud to be a self taught farmer. Scott and his family operate the Flying W Farm, where they have raised corn, soybeans, wheat, and chickens.​


Judge David Young is married to his wife, Anna, for over 20 years and is the father of two children and resides in Dublin, Ohio. He loves to travel domestically and internationally (having run with the bulls in Pamplona, danced with the Mud Men in New Guinea, scuba dived on the Great Barrier Reef) and enjoys spending time watching his children’s sporting events, golfing, running, swimming and rooting for The Ohio State Buckeyes.
